OB-GYN/Obstetricia-ginecología The best start for baby and you CARING PROFESSIONALS ARE HERE FOR YOU AT ALL STAGES OF PREGNANCY Y OU MIGHT NOT BE showing yet. But even if you don’t have a baby bump, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is where to turn for pregnancy care and your baby’s delivery. The good news: You don’t have to travel far for the care you and your baby deserve. It’s right here at Val Verde Regional Medical Center (VVRMC). The team of board-certified OB-GYNs and skilled nurses will keep a close watch over the two of you as your pregnancy progresses. And if you develop a pregnancy complication like high blood pressure or diabetes, you can trust VVRMC with your care. WELCOMING BABIES If this year is typical, about 900 babies will enter the world at the Women’s Center at VVRMC. “We know how special your baby’s birth is and are honored to be a part of it,” says Michelle Mihelich, RN, Women’s Center Director. VVRMC’s first priority is safety—for both you and your baby. That’s why a pediatrician is always on call for all births. And it’s why all the nurses are specially trained BEYOND PREGNANCY Superior obstetric care is only one aspect of the Women’s Center. “We care for women of all ages and in all stages of their lives,” says Xochy Hurtado, Chief Executive Officer. “The quality of care is as good as, or better than, that found in most major cities when looking at quality metrics.” You can turn to the Women’s Clinic for yearly well- woman visits and cancer screenings. But it can also help ease almost any health problem that women face. Among them: irregular periods, menopause symptoms, pelvic pain and incontinence. And whenever it’s feasible, the team will manage your condition conservatively—for example, with lifestyle or medication changes. But when a procedure or surgery is necessary, the doctors can often perform it in a minimally invasive way to speed your recovery. But there’s something else to know about VVRMC’s care. “I think what really makes it stand out is the personalized, compassionate care you get from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave,” says Brisa Lopez, RN, Clinic Nurse Manager. “Our patients often tell us, ‘I feel like such a priority.’” in obstetric complications and certified in newborn resuscitation. VVRMC is ready to provide highly specialized care in a critical situation. “But if your newborn needs a higher level of care, we will quickly stabilize your baby for emergency transport to a hospital that can provide that care,” Mihelich says. What’s more, VVRMC is committed to following your birth plan and welcoming your baby in just the way you want. The hospital firmly believes in family- centered care too: Private and spacious postpartum rooms are designed to help you and your baby—and your whole family—bond. To help with that bonding, VVRMC also encourages rooming in—keeping your baby with you during your hospital stay. Throughout it, the nurses will help you become comfortable caring for your baby so that heading home isn’t a bumpy transition. If you decide to breastfeed, they’ll help you succeed.
