Keeping Well/Mantenerse Sano 9 Hospital news/Noticias del hospital Stepping into a new role MEET THE NEW CFO AT VVRMC C LAUDIA FALCON HAS BEEN the assistant chief financial officer (CFO) at Val Verde Regional Medical Center for over a year. She has now been promoted to CFO. Falcon was born and raised in Uvalde. She has an extended family there. Her family is very important to her, and she enjoys spending time with them. “My family is the reason I was able to go to school and pursue a career,” she says. “Without their support, I couldn’t have accomplished what I have.” And she has accomplished a lot. Falcon graduated from Uvalde High School; earned her associate’s degree at Southwest Texas Junior College; and then went on to Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio, where she earned her bachelor’s in business management with a minor in organizational leadership and a master’s in finance and accounting. She has also served as secretary on the board of the Healthcare Finance Management Association. She has 20-plus years of experience in a health care setting. “I’ve had experience in nearly all aspects of the revenue cycle and hospital operations,” Falcon says. She started as a receptionist and worked her way up—all while going to school and raising a family. In 2017, she accepted the position of controller and in April of 2019 was offered an opportunity at VVRMC as assistant CFO. Falcon and her husband, Roy, are very active in the Catholic Church. They are active parishioners at St. Mary Magdalene in Brackettville. Between them, they have four grown sons, a daughter-in-law and two granddaughters. When she isn’t working, she is spending time with her family, participating in church activities and attending church retreats. She enjoys visiting cathedrals with her husband and went on a pilgrimage to Mexico City a few years ago. Falcon understands the functioning of communities in our area and loves Del Rio. “It feels like home,” she says. Ahora ha sido ascendida al puesto de CFO. Falcon nació y creció en Uvalde. Allí tiene una extensa familia. Para ella su familia es muy importante y disfruta compartiendo su tiempo con ella. “Mi familia es la razón por la que pude ir a la escuela y estudiar una carrera”, dice. “Sin su apoyo, todo lo que he conseguido no habría sido posible”. Y ha conseguido mucho. Falcon se graduó en Uvalde High School; recibió el título de asociado en Southwest Texas Junior College; y posteriormente realizó sus estudios en la Universidad Our Lady of the Lake de San Antonio, donde obtuvo el título de licenciatura en gestión de empresas con una especialización en liderazgo organizativo y un máster en finanzas y contabilidad. También ha ocupado el puesto de secretaria de la junta de la Asociación de la Gestión Financiera de Centros de Atención Médica. Cuenta con más de 20 años de experiencia en el ámbito sanitario. “He tenido experiencia en casi todos los aspectos del ciclo de ingresos y las operaciones financieras hospitalarias”, dice Falcon. Comenzó como recepcionista y se esforzó mucho por abrirse camino, trabajando mientras estudiaba y formaba una familia. En 2017, aceptó el puesto de interventora y en abril de 2019 se le ofreció una oportunidad en VVRMC como asistente del CFO. Falcon y su esposo, Roy, desarrollan una gran actividad en la Iglesia Católica. Son feligreses activos en St. Mary Magdalene, Brackettville. El matrimonio tiene cuatro hijos mayores, una nuera y dos nietas. Cuando no está trabajando, dedica el tiempo a disfrutar de su familia, participa en actividades de la iglesia y asiste a retiros espirituales. Le gusta visitar catedrales con su marido, y hace unos años fueron en viaje de peregrinación a la Ciudad de México. Falcon entiende el funcionamiento de las comunidades de nuestra zona y le encanta Del Rio. “Me siento como en casa”, dice.
