Community/Comunidad T HE EMPLOYEES at Val Verde Regional Medical Center (VVRMC) represent a lot of local people power through volunteerism. They volunteer for their places of worship, youth-serving organizations, animal assistance groups, schools and much more. Several employees support local Make A Wish kids. They meet with the kids and their families, find out what the child’s most heartfelt wish is and help make it happen. These volunteers have provided support for nearly 10 local kids and their wishes in the past three years. Children with a critical illness who are between 2½ and 18 years old may be eligible for a wish, according to the Make A Wish website. Kids fighting illness do better with happy memories of a wish granted. Local businesses help with wish enhancements. The wish granters plan parties to reveal wishes. One of the most common locations is Mr. Gatti’s Pizza, which is the favorite of many local kids. Skip Baker, Gatti’s owner, has been especially supportive. Make A Wish has granted wishes for a local child to go to Paris, a family to go to Disney World and another to get a smartphone. Recently, one young man was granted his wish for a large TV, a PS4 and an Xbox, with games to go with it. No matter the wish, VVRMC helps its wish granters make it happen, with the support of the community. Patty Hernandez finds out she and her family are going to Disney World. Se ofrecen como voluntarios para sus lugares de culto, organizaciones para jóvenes, grupos de ayuda a los animales, escuelas y mucho más. Varios empleados apoyan a los niños locales de Make A Wish.
