is much like
all of us. She is a mother and a
grandmother. She has a job. She
is an active member of our community and
enjoys good health.
Mary is at very low risk for colorectal
cancer. No one in her immediate family has
had colon cancer, and she has had none of
the common symptoms (blood in the stool,
bloating and gas, abdominal discomfort and
pain, or changes in bowel habits). She was
offered a free colorectal cancer screening
test. CPRIT (Cancer Prevention and Research Institute
of Texas) supplied the funding for the InSure FIT
screening tests. “The instructions were clear, and it was
easy to use,” she says.
Colon cancer begins as a growth called a polyp.
Preventing colorectal cancer simply involves removing
the polyps so they do not have a chance to ever become
cancer. Mary’s test came back positive—she had one very
small polyp, which was removed by

“I feel so grateful for the InSure FIT test and the FLU-
FIT on the Frontera Program which provided it to me,”
says Mary. “I believe they may have saved my life.”

Mary tiene un riesgo muy bajo de tener
cáncer colorrectal. Nadie en su familia directa
ha tenido cáncer de colon, y ella no ha tenido
ninguno de los síntomas comunes (sangre
en las heces, hinchazón y gases, molestias y
dolor abdominal o cambios en los hábitos
intestinales). Un día le ofrecieron una prueba
