be surprised to see him working
just about anywhere at Val Verde
Regional Medical Center (VVRMC).
“I do everything here,” says Reyes,
24. “I work at the lab. I’ve been in
pediatrics and vascular surgery. I’m
constantly busy.”
Reyes has been at VVRMC only a
little more than a year, but he’s worked
in health care since age 18. He first
went to school to become a nursing
assistant. Before coming to VVRMC,
he was employed at an assisted living
facility.
“That was amazing. It was like
having a bunch of grandparents,” he
says. “They spoiled me. I really enjoyed
it there.”
He went back to school for
certification as a medical assistant.
“I’m working my way up,” Reyes says. But toward
what? That’s up for debate. “I’m not sure if I want to
be a radiology technician or registered nurse,” says
Reyes. “Right now the thing I like most is assisting in
surgeries. It’s really interesting.”
Until he decides his next career move, he’ll just
enjoy being at VVRMC.
“I’m really grateful for my job and for the
people who work here. They’re really awesome and
supportive.”
A health career
in the making

trabajando prácticamente en todos
los rincones de Val Verde Regional
Medical Center (VVRMC).
“Hago de todo aquí”, dice Reyes, de
24 años. “Trabajo en el laboratorio.
Tengo experiencia en pediatría y
cirugía vascular. Me mantengo
siempre ocupado”.
Reyes forma parte de VVRMC
desde hace poco más de un año,
pero trabaja en la atención de
la salud desde los 18 años. Sus
primeros estudios fueron de asistente
de enfermería. Antes de venir a
VVRMC, trabajaba en un centro
de vida asistida.
“Era fabuloso. Era como tener todo un grupo de
abuelos”, afirma. “Me consentían. Disfruté mucho trabajar
allí”.
Volvió a sus estudios para obtener la certificación como
asistente médico.
“Estoy esforzándome para progresar”, dice Reyes. ¿Pero
con qué rumbo? Eso es tema de debate. “No estoy seguro,
quiero ser técnico radiólogo o enfermero registrado”, nos
cuenta Reyes. “En este momento lo que más me gusta es
asistir en cirugías. Es realmente interesante”.
